Georgia Council on Chiropractic Donates $10,000.00 to Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation

Funds Will Be Used For Ongoing Immunity Research Project

The Georgia Chiropractic Council (GCC) donated $10,000.00 to the Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation (FVS) during its Summer Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on July 16, 2022.

The donation was presented to FVS Vice President Matthew McCoy DC, MPH by GCC leadership including:

"We end up in lots of battles in the chiropractic profession and without fail we turn around and the same people are typically right there with us every time with their pitchforks and torches in hand ready to storm the castle" stated Dr. McCoy.

McCoy continued "We are so very grateful for the generous support from the GCC and for their work protecting principled chiropractic in the State of Georgia."

According to McCoy, in addition to its already existing projects, the Foundation embarked on a multi-pronged project to address questions related to the role of chiropractic care in immune function following the debacle that occurred during COVID involving the systematic attack on chiropractors by its own trade organizations, regulatory boards and other groups that sought to muzzle chiropractors from talking about the benefits of chiropractic on immune function.

The multi-pronged project to address questions related to the role of chiropractic in immune function has multiple parts including the completion of a scoping review of chiropractic, immunity and biomarkers, a comprehensive, integrative review of the scientific literature on chiropractic and immunity, the development of research protocols, feasibility studies, development of a prospective longitudinal health outcomes study, a research conference, and the development of policy and best practice statements for practitioners and patients in an evidence informed framework.

Several aspects of the project have already been completed including:

The most recent project to be completed was the Best Practices document and related Recommendations on the role of chiropractic in immune function. The Best Practices document addresses clinical care, research, autonomy, consent & free speech issues.

Recently the Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation (FVS) awarded Amy Haas DC, Ph.D Researcher of the Year for her work on conducting a broad review of the literature on the topic of chiropractic and immunity.

According to Dr. Haas, she and the team are ". . . in the process of compiling a broad-category search of research literature intended to link the established neurophysiological affects of the chiropractic adjustment to potential impacts on multiple integrated systems, using a dynamical systems model and drawing from multiple fields of study."

While Dr. Haas is busy addressing this aspect of the project the FVS is gearing up to conduct practice based clinical research on immune function following chiropractic care and these funds will be earmarked for that project.

According to McCoy there have been a couple of recent attempts by others to do immune research by groups in chiropractic however those efforts were not focused on vertebral subluxation and instead focused on spinal manipulation and joint dysfunction. Sadly, another project out of New Zealand concluded after a highly flawed literature review that its not yet known if there is a "clinically relevant" effect from chiropractic.

McCoy stated "These failed efforts make it clear that its really important to define your terms, choose your operational models thoughtfully and be really careful about researchers who pretend to embrace subluxation when raising money for themselves and then suddenly forget about it when they conduct the study and publish the results." McCoy added "You have these supposed chiropractic researchers that troll the subluxation and vitalistic camps within chiropractic, use the "S" word, make promises about their research, get people to write checks and all the while they are really just doing research to appease the Chiropractic Cartel and the Subluxation Deniers who run it."

The Foundation's efforts are supported by a group of dedicated donors intent on protecting the right of the public to receive chiropractic care focused on vertebral subluxation and the right of chiropractors to provide such care.

Please join them in supporting these efforts by making a donation to the Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation today!
